Asante Kotoko head coach Steve Polack has expressed his satisfaction with his side's performance in their 1-0 win against CARA Club in the first leg of the preliminary stage of this year's CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium witnessed one of the best displays by Asante Kotoko in a long while as they pipped Congolese side CARA Club to 1-0 in the first leg of the preliminary round of CAF's second-tier club competition. Meanwhile, CARA missed their only penalty.

The only goal in that game was scored by Yakubu Mohammed.

Saddick Adams missed from the spot in the sixth minute as the home side failed to capitalise on an early opportunity to take the lead following excellent pressure during the opening minutes of the contest.

In the 71st minute, CARA were awarded a penalty after a foul inside Kotoko box.

Kotoko missed a remarkable three spotkicks - all taken by different players - during the 90 minutes, while the Congolese heavyweights missed one of their own late on.

CARA almost took the lead against the run of play, when Oyoh Thouey Rox forced a brilliant and superb save from Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan who was dormant in the first half. Referee Issa Sy awarded Kotoko the second penalty of the game in the 62nd minute but Amos Frimpong unbelievably missed from the spot to despair and anguish of the teaming supporters.

Kotoko will need to avoid defeat to progress to the next stage of the competition in the return encounter in fortnight time in Congo.

Referee Isasa Sy awarded Kotoko a third penalty, but once again Baba Mahama also stepped and missed from the spot.
