IAF's Microlight Helicopter Crashes in Assam, 2 Pilots Killed

There are no details as yet on how the mishap took place.

A microlight aircraft crashed in Assam's Majuli region killing two Indian Air Force pilots on Thursday, February 15.

The accident took place shortly after noon, minutes shortly after the pilots took off from Jorhat's airport, also known as Rworiah airport.

"Two pilots, Wg Cdr J James and Wg Cdr D Vats, sustained fatal injuries", read the statement.


The incident took place at Sumoimari Chapori, a police officer told IANS, adding that Defence and IAF personnel were on their way to Majuli.

The wreckage of the plane has been sighted and a court of inquiry ordered, the officials said.

"The crash took place at around 12 in the afternoon when the helicopter was on its routine sortie from Jorhat Air Force station", Indian Air Force sources said.
