Mane hits hat-trick as Liverpool crush toothless Porto

Although there is no Keita to select now, Klopp opted to exercise control in the Champions League last-16 first-leg tie but his three forwards were liberated as they led Liverpool to a 5-0 win.

Nathaniel Clyne has returned to training with Liverpool and has joined the squad for the Champions League last-16 first leg against Porto on Wednesday.

"Tremendous effort in 5-0 win tonight away from home in Champions League", he wrote.

A second followed not long after when Mohamed Salah recorded his 30th goal of the season to put Jurgen Klopp's side comfortably ahead at the interval.

Mane has been overshadowed so far this term by the blistering performances of Firmino and Salah, but the Senegalese forward's first goal in six games was his fourth in the Champions League.

Conceicao said: "The fans know, I think everyone knows, that this team was made within a hard situation and it was in this difficulty that a strong and competitive team was born".

All fof Liverpool's goals, but particularly the final three, came from careful game management, happy to wait and hit Porto on the counter to devastating effect.

The 37-year-old also hailed the teamwork of the current group, saying: "The work rate of this Liverpool team is very, very special, and you also notice how unselfish they are". Striker Vincent Aboubakar was also out with a muscle problem.

Mane opened the scoring after 25 minutes with the help of some questionable goalkeeping from Jose Sa, the Porto number one diving over his low shot after a driving run from Georginio Wijnaldum.

Salah's 29th-minute goal arguably upstaged Mane's treble as the Egyptian took his tally to 30 goals in all competitions this season.

At the other end, Virgil van Dijk marshalled Liverpool's defence on his Champions League debut for the club following his winter switch from Southampton.

"We needed to play as a team and that's what we did", Mane said after his first hat trick for Liverpool.

With PSG rocking, Marcelo took full advantage, finishing from another Asensio cross three minutes later to give Madrid a healthy lead to take to Paris on March 6. "We played great football, created great chances and scored five goals".

The flashy uniform was bought out once again in December's league trip to Arsenal, where Juergen Klopp's side netted three more goals but were held to a draw by the resilient hosts.

"But from 0-3 there was no more game".
