National Football League draft to air on FOX

National Football League draft to air on FOX

Fox will televise the NFL draft for the first time in its history, partnering with the NFL Network for a joint production that will air on both networks.

Pete Rozelle never could have imagined, when ESPN first approached him, that the National Football League draft would become such a hot commodity that some other network would come along and compete with ESPN for the event. The league drew rave reviews for choosing Philadelphia as the destination, with more than 70,000 fans showing up for the first night. The increased exposure on a national network should shatter previous ratings of the NFL draft and show that in spite of the declining ratings of NFL games in recent years that the NFL is still a top commodity among the major television networks.

Flagging TV ratings aren't hurting the NFL's network appeal.

The Fox NFL crew broadcasts from the field before the NFL football NFC championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, in Philadelphia.

ESPN will still have its own live coverage of the draft, which begins April 26 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, but FOX will air the NFL Network's feed.

The first round of the NFL Draft is scheduled to take place on April 26th.
