National Weather Service says no tsunami threat for New England despite alert

A tsunami warning test done at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday for some spots on the east coast was apparently mistaken by some as the real thing.

The National Weather Service confirms there is no cause for alarm on the Gulf Coast.

A tsunami warning was sent to AccuWeather app users' phones in cities including New Orleans; New York City; Houston; Charleston, South Carolina; and Naples Florida, among others. It was just a Tsunami test message.

He said the National Weather Service is trying to sort out what happened. We have been notified that some users received this test message as an actual Tsunami Warning. There is no Tsunami Warning in effect.

The pictured alert was sent to a Queens' resident's phone on February 6, 2018.

AccuWeather responded on Twitter almost 20 minutes later to say the notification was a test alert.

However, they say, users received the test message as an actual Tsunami Warning.
