PM says Arunachal's progress will illuminate India; to address rallies in Tripura

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Arunachal Pradesh for the first time since the Doklam situation a year ago, to inaugurate the Dorjee Khandu state convention centre and Civil Secretariat in Itanagar.

During the inauguration of the Convention Centre, the PM said, "This Centre is expected to become a significant landmark of Itanagar". The Prime Minister will also dedicate the state civil secretariat building to the nation and will lay the foundation stone of the academic block of the Tomo Riba institute of health and medical science.

Though the BJP has not announced a chief ministerial candidate, the youthful Deb (46) is seen by many as its likely choice for the top post if it gets better of the CPM, which has been in power in the tiny northeastern state for 25 years, in the elections scheduled for 18 February. "It is time to give India a health care system that makes quality treatment affordable within a limit of Rs 5 lakh per family", he said. Referring to the BJP-led NDA government's crusade against corruption, Modi said the government has been able to curb corruption through the direct bank transfer (DBT) scheme.

There is so much work to do in the health sector. One aspect is human resource development, other is infra and there is also the need to use modern technology in the sector.

Earlier, he inaugurated the DorjeeKhandu State Convention Centre, which has an auditorium, conference halls and an exhibition hall.

Most of the key departments are based in the new secretariat. Everything is in one place only.

"The Chinese government has never recognised the so-called Arunachal Pradesh and is firmly opposed to the Indian leader's visit to the disputed area", he said. Modi reminded people about the Naharlagun-New Delhi express, which is going to run twice a week and is going to be referred to as Arunachal Express.

PM Modi also planted a sapling at Governor House, in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday.
