Rainbow Six Siege Operation: Chimera, Outbreak events detailed

Mission Outbreak will available to the public on March 6 and run for four weeks, before concluding on April 3.

It's been heavily implied for a while now that the Outbreak event has had something to do with zombies, due to various promotional images showing warning signs that talk about biohazards.

"[An] infestation of unknown origin is attacking the small town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico", Ubisoft said in a release.

Ubisoft also says that Outbreak will feature three exclusive maps which are designed differently than the competitive maps by featuring a large, open style, and will even have stages of the maps open up to players as they progress through the rounds. It turned out to be carrying an exotic parasite, the Apex, which infected the area and turned the town's populace into monsters.

While Operation Chimera is likely going to be more of the same anti-terrorism shooting gameplay, Rainbow Six Siege Season 3 will likely be throwing a curveball into many people's directions by putting zombies (or whatever the Outbreak event is about) into the mix. If the parasite gets out, it would be a disaster of global proportions. With monstrous exploding enemies and hulking horrors lurking within, the Rainbow Six team are about to come up against a threat unlike anything they've ever faced before. "Players will have to find new ways of using their arsenal, against a foe that doesn't take cover and engages instantly in close combat".

The three maps in Outbreak will be a lot bigger than the ones seen in multiplayer, with a "clear sense of progression" hinting that they might have a linear story pushing players through. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege gives players unprecedented control over their ability to fortify their position - by reinforcing walls and floors, using barbed wire, deployable shields and mines, and more - or breach the enemies' using observation drones, sheet charges, rappelling, and more. Outbreak will also be playable across two difficulty modes - "Normal" and "Pandemic". As per usual, friendly fire will be a thing and the waves of enemies will differ between types to include weaker and stronger variants. Ubisoft hasn't detailed everything yet and will dive deeper into both Chimera and Outbreak during the Six Invitational Finals on February 18 and 19. They'll be able to try out Outbreak the following day, February 20.
