Sunday Sales Could Be On Fast Track

The Indiana House Public Policy Committee amended a Senate-passed bill Wednesday to change the effective date from July 1, 2018, to effective "immediately upon passage".

The bill had stated that Sunday carryout sales would become legal on July 1.

SB 1 allows Sunday alcohols sales from noon to 8 grocery stores, package liquor stores, convenience stores, drug stores and restaurants.

Leaders from the House and Senate typically work out final versions of budget bills at the end of a three month session. House Bill 270 would remove the link between awards and tuition rate, and would determine the amount available each year based exclusively on the size of the fund.

Sen. Bill Soules, D- Las Cruces, has a similar bill which has passed the Senate and is now moving through the House. That bill was the annual appropriations bill, so it also included more than $4 billion in funding for other agencies. "I applaud (House Public Policy Chairman) Rep".

"And I can't really come up with anything why we wouldn't allow Hoosiers to do what we're going to allow them to do on July 1, to go ahead and start doing that much, much sooner", Smaltz says.
