Trump says he's thinking about pulling ICE from California

President Donald Trump angrily said on Thursday that he is considering withdrawing immigration and border control enforcement agencies from California because of what he called the state's "protection of terrible criminals".

Speaking at a meeting about gun control Friday, he blasted the state's "sanctuary" law that bars cops asking people about their immigration status.

In January, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra warned businesses that if they helped authorities in sweeps to find immigrants, they would violate the Immigrant Worker Protection Act, The Sacramento Bee reported. "And you know what, I'm thinking about doing it".

Trump said heavily Democratic California, which gave Hillary Clinton a resounding victory in the 2016 presidential race, was "doing a lousy management job".

Trump said crime would explode in California if he took such an action - and predicted that the Golden State would be "begging" for the return of federal immigration authorities within two months.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Removal Operations team arrested almost 150 people in South and Central Texas during a seven-day enforcement operation, and the majority of the arrests came from the Austin area.

'If I wanted to pull my people out of California you would see crime like you've never seen before.

California became a sanctuary state last October, along with several of its cities and counties.

"You would see crime like nobody has ever seen crime in this country".

Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan said on Fox News earlier this year that California's policies would only increase ICE's presence.

The Justice Department has threatened to deny millions of dollars in federal grant money to communities that refuse to comply with a statute requiring information-sharing with federal law enforcement. As a matter of fact, we're in the process now, I'm going to significantly increase our enforcement presence in California.

Trump said that "while we're getting MS-13 out by the thousands", members of the gang still manage to enter the United States.
