Bills expected to sign DT Star Lotulelei

Bills coach Sean McDermott was Carolina's defensive coordinator for the first four seasons of Lotulelei's career.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Bills have inked Lotulelei to a new five-year contract that will become official once the new league year begins on Wednesday and free agency officially opens.

Just call them the Carolina Panthers North. "At 6'2" and 315 pounds, however, the Utah product is a prototypical run-stuffer and space-eater in the middle of the line. Lotulelei will immediately fill that void for Buffalo.

Williams is signing a one-year deal to return to Buffalo for a 13th season, his agent confirmed on Twitter Tuesday. Bills general manager Brandon Beane is also familiar with Lotulelei and played a role in drafting him after previously serving as the Panthers assistant GM.

The Bills had created more than $15 million in salary-cap space in trading away QB Tyrod Taylor and left tackle Cordy Glenn in recent days.

O'Leary caught a career-high 22 passes for 322 yards and two touchdowns last season in 15 games, including five starts.

Former general manager Dave Gettleman, who was sacked in July, picked defensive tackle Vernon Butler in the first round of the 2016 draft, knowing it would be tough to give big contracts to both Short and Lotulelei. Buffalo moved up nine spots in the first round by acquiring the Bengals' selection, 12th overall, as part of the Glenn trade.
