Ex-Lions DT Haloti Ngata plans to sign with Eagles

Fresh off acquiring Michael Bennett in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, the defending champs will reportedly sign fellow former Pro Bowl defensive lineman Haloti Ngata. Ngata is a five-time Pro-Bowler and adds even more depth to an already risky Eagles defensive line.

Allen, who specialized in stopping the run, played 41 percent of the defensive snaps in 2017 as part of an Eagles line rotation that included Fletcher Cox, Tim Jernigan and Destiny Vaeao. Ngata's signing could mean an end to Beau Allen's time in Philadelphia, as he too hits the free agent market.

Ngata was with the Baltimore Ravens from 2006-2014, before playing for the Lions in 2015 and 2016.

Good luck, National Football League offensive lines.

The Ngata deal is yet to become official but the guess here is at his age and coming off a season when he played only five games because of a biceps injury, he will come on the cheap. He had two sacks in those games, however.

After spending most of his career as one of the league's best interior defensive linemen in a 3-4 defense with the Baltimore Ravens, he transitioned to a 4-3 with the Lions previous year.

Ngata had spent the last three seasons in Detroit.

He's been selected to five Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro twice.
