José Mourinho attacks 'worst manager' De Boer for Rashford comments

Rashford, 20, has been on the bench 15 times in the league this season but scored twice to secure a 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Saturday having been named in the starting line-up.

This season, the England worldwide has now scored six times in the league, but he has mostly been used as a substitute.

Mourinho did not take kindly the Dutchman's comments, and launched a scathing attack on him during a press conference on Monday.

'If he has one or two not good games, he puts him out.

"Tomorrow is a very hard match, we are playing against a team that didn't lose against Liverpool home and away", said Mourinho. Does he play every match from the start? No.

Rashford is in line to start the second leg of the Champions League round-of-16 tie against Sevilla at Old Trafford on Tuesday night after that performance against Liverpool.

"'I read something, some quote from the worst manager in the history of the Premier League - Frank De Boer", said Mourinho as he defended his record of giving Rashford 93 appearances in less than two seasons.

The perception of United as a pragmatic team set up to get results continues to grate with Mourinho as he faces Sevilla following a goalless draw in Spain three weeks ago.

However, De Boer's brief stint in England - where he guided Palace to four straight top-flight defeats, and no goals, before being sacked after 77 days - gave Mourinho plenty of ammunition to reply.

According to 101 Great Goals, Frank said to BT Sport: "It's a pity that the manager is Mourinho".

'What he was saying was not good for Marcus Rashford to have a coach like me because the most important thing for me is to win.

"If he was coached by Frank he would lose because he lost every game". Of course, with Marcus, I have to be honest and give the credit to the people in the academy who were responsible for his formation; I have to leave credit to Louis van Gaal, who was responsible for his first season in the first team. I said that before the Liverpool match when many of you were maybe not expecting him to start.

"They scored goals in Liverpool, drew the match in Liverpool". I'm really happy too.

"I think that Gareth Southgate doesn't mind that I say a couple of minutes of our conversation were about Marcus", said Mourinho.
