Maoist Attack: 9 CRPF personnel killed in Chhattisgarh

Again, at 12.30 p.m., the Maoists targeted another team of 212 battalion of the CRPF on Kistaram-Palodi road in Sukma District in which a mine protection vehicle was blown off by triggering an IED [Improvised Explosives Devise]. The names of the jawans killed: ASI RKS Tomar, Constable Ajay KR Yadav, Constable Manoranjan Lanka, Constable Jitendra Singh, Constable Shobhit Sharma, Constable Manoj Singh, Constable Dharmendra Singh, Constable Chandra HS, Head constable Lakshman. Also, reports are coming that the forces are conducting the area-domination operation in the forest of Kistaram when the Maoists blew up the CRPF's mine-protected vehicle.

In a tweet, Mr Singh said, he has spoken to the Director General of CRPF regarding the incident and has asked him to leave for Chhattisgarh. Soon after the incident, reinforcement was rushed to the spot. "Extra force has reached the spot, there is no firing at present", DM Awasthi, Special DG, Anti Naxal Operations, said.

According to officials, an encounter broke out between the jawans and the Maoists around 8 am.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh too strongly condemned the "cowardly and shameful" attack and said Naxals were afraid that development works will put an end to their activities.

Earlier on the day, Maoists had staged a similar attack but they fled after the CRPF personnel retaliated the fire.

If we took back to the past then we can say that in last 11 month around 25 CRPF jawans were killed by a gang of almost 300 Naxals at a construction site in Sukma.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also condemned the attack and described the incident as "deeply distressing".

12 jawans of the CRPF were killed in the same district in March previous year.
