Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Vow to Embrace the Inclusion Rider Clause

Filmmaker duo/best buds forever Ben Affleck and Matt Damon today announced they'd be adopting inclusion riders for all their future production deals, off the back of Frances McDormand's Oscar speech bringing the concept into the mainstream.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are the latest stars to follow Frances McDormand's advice on "inclusion riders".

In the press room backstage at the 90th Academy Awards, McDormand explained an inclusion rider can be added to contracts so that at least 50 per cent of the cast and crew have to be diverse.

Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni made the announcement on Monday night via Twitter at the South by Southwest Film Festival.

In her acceptance speech, McDormand honoured the other women who were nominated in various categories.

The Pearl Street Films company will adopt the inclusion rider for all of its projects moving forward, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The heightened buzz prompted the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, founded by University of Southern California professor Stacy Smith, who floated the idea of inclusion riders in 2016, to tweet out a quick explainer on the term. This left plenty of people asking "inclusion wha t?". Specifics of the rider are also undisclosed at this time.
