Paralympics: Pyeongchang sees record ticket sales for Winter Games

Quesnel resident and Canada's Para Hockey Team defenceman James Gemmell opened the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games with a 17-0 victory over Sweden in Gangneung, South Korea.

McGregor was just one of a number of Canadians who had big days offensively - Bryan Sholomicki (Winnipeg, Man.) had a hat trick of his own along with two assists, Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) had a goal and five helpers, and Liam Hickey (St. John's, N.L.) and Rob Armstrong (Erin, Ont.) finished with two goals and three assists apiece. The games will happen over a 10 day period that began on Friday in Pyeongchang.

Canada dropped both of its matches to drop to 3-2.

In sledge hockey, Canada improved to 3-0 with a dominating 8-0 win over Norway.

McGregor again scored the victor on a power play at 3:59 of the first period.

More than 600 athletes are set to compete in the 2018 Winter Games, including 44 percent more female athletes than competed in the 2014 games.

Team Canada is in fourth place in the medal standings with seven medals (three gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals).
