Sensex rises over 200 points; Nifty near 10200

Key benchmark indices are expected to extend their gains on Tuesday tracking firm global cues. Short-covering in banking sector from the oversold level supported the gains.

The 30-share index was however trading at 33,139.48 at 1115 hrs, showing a gain of 73.07 points, or 0.22 per cent.

On Monday, the Nifty50 had reclaimed the 10,100 mark to close at 10,130.65 points, while the Sensex had reclaimed the 33,000 mark and closed at 33,066.41 points - up 469.87 points or 1.44 per cent from its previous close.

India INX, based in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), in a statement today said it daily turnover from derivatives hit a record 3,287 crore (USD 506.68 million) on March 26.

The Sensex triggered a low of 409.73 points at 32,596.54, and the Nifty fell 116.75 points to 9,998.05, on Friday.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) had sold shares worth Rs 741.19 crore on net basis, while domestic had institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities to the tune of Rs 2,017.95 crore yesterday, provisional data showed.

NMDC has declared an interim dividend of Rs 4.3 per equity share.Other than Wipro, shares of Tata Steel, Axis Bank, Yes Bank, State Bank of India, L&T, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank emerged as the lead gainers on BSE Sensex rising up to 2.5%.

Japan's Nikkei gained 1.66 per cent.

The laggards were BSE Information Technology (-0.68%), Oil & Gas (-0.31%) and Teck (-0.08%) were the only laggards.

In the broader market, BSE midcap and smallcap indices rose 1.19% and 0.73%, respectively.

Trade-war worries eased following reports that the US and China are willing to negotiate trade-related issues and avert a potential trade war.

Stock markets in Asian are in the green following the rebound on Wall Street overnight as trade tensions between the United States and China appeared to ease.
