The Ford Mustang GT California Special is back this summer!

The 2019 Ford Mustang California Special pulls some of the aesthetic DNA from the original 1968 auto without managing to look hokey, no mean feat these days. One - inspired by the 1967 Shelby GT notchback coupe prototype - came to be called the California Special. The package also adds stick-on fake scoops on the rear fenders, and custom black grille with the vintage Mustang badge moved to the side. "This year further targets hardcore Mustang enthusiasts who want even more performance from BULLITT, while new technology including rev-matching on manual transmission equipped Mustang GTs and active valve performance exhaust on EcoBoost models means even more thrills". New five-spoke wheels, blacked-out grille, and a front splitter borrowed from the Performance Pack 1 round out the cosmetic changes. A signature Ebony Black and Race Red script California Special badge adorns the trunk lid.

Ford is bringing a slew of new options to the Mustang for 2019. Inside are seats with suede trim and embossed "GT/CS" logos and floor mats with embroidered logos.

"Few things are more satisfying than dropping the top on a California Special and taking a drive down the majestic Pacific Coast Highway", says Ford Designer Mark Conforzi.

To complement the visual styling, the 5-liter V8 making 460 hp and 420 lb-ft connects to a six-speed manual gearbox with Rev Matching tech.

Also on the tech side is the B&O Play 1,000-watt sound system with 12 speakers and a 10-channel amplifier.

Ford on Monday also announced some general updates for the 2019 Mustang range. Ford already showed the Bullitt edition's Highland Green, but two new hues including Velocity Blue and Need for Green have been announced.

The 2019 Ford Mustang will go on sale this summer.
