Trump told Netanyahu that United States won't bend demands on Iran deal

As Tillerson was replaced by CIA Director Mike Pompeo, a vocal opponent of the JCPOA, Votel warned that a breakdown of the deal would mean the US needed to find another solution to address accusations that Iran was planning to build nuclear weapons, charges that Tehran has vehemently denied. Thus far, the USA has successfully tried to target the Iranian regime without violating the nuclear deal which President Trump has repeatedly criticized.

During remarks at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said his discussions with US President Donald Trump and other officials in Washington last week focused mainly on Iran, Xinhua news agency reported.

In a tacit confirmation of the report - which clearly suggests that it was meant to send a message to the other signatories and especially Iran - White House officials refused to deny it.

Trump set May 12 as the deadline for reaching an agreement on how to change the Iran deal with the three European countries. Another round of talks is expected to begin on Thursday in Berlin.

United States officials will pick up discussions with their European Union counterparts about the fate of the Iran nuclear deal.

Israel does not partake in the talks directly but is updated on any progress regarding the negotiations. But make no mistake about it: This is their last chance.

The signing of the Iran nuclear deal in 2015 opened the floodgates for all Mideast regional powers to pursue their own nuclear programs, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. Given the state of unrest at home, it's possible that Iran's leaders may be reconsidering their hard-line stance on modifications - if only because reimposing the sanctions would rapidly undo what economic progress has been made since they were lifted, possibly leading to another round of destabilizing demonstrations.
