Watch Tiger Woods' brilliant chip to set up a birdie

Henrik Stenson did just enough right on Saturday for a 1-under 71 to take the lead at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He'll play in the final group once again on Sunday alongside Bryson DeChambeau, who shot an even-par 72 and is at 11-under 205.

Four-time major champion McIlroy, who needs only a Masters green jacket to complete a career Grand Slam, birdied two of the last three holes to fire 67. Henrik Stenson and Bryson DeChambeau, who began the day jointly in the lead, maintained their challenge, but the threats to them were obvious as McIlroy, Justin Rose and several others surged to nearly join them.

Woods, coming off a runner-up finish last week at Innisbrook, is an eight-time victor at Bay Hill, most recently in 2013 when he last played the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Winless for nine years, Casey, 40, had actually won it by 2-1/2 feet-the distance that Woods' sudden death-sending putt had stopped before the cup, from 40 feet on 18.

Woods is seeking a record ninth victory at Bay Hill in just his fifth PGA Tour event since undergoing spinal fusion surgery in April 2017, his fourth back operation in the space of three years.

"I'll tell you after Augusta!" he said with a grin. At nine, Woods had a three-putt bogey from 61 feet.

Woods shot a 3-under 69 to get to 7 under in the tournament, certainly within striking distance back in his prime. "Maybe a low one tomorrow will give me a chance to kind of steal one from behind".

Woods added a few electric moments to his personal highlight reel Saturday. Previously he's bemoaned the fact that "my kids have never understood what I've been able to do in golf because they've never seen me in action and always think I'm the YouTube golfer".

Before play began at Bay Hill, the 14-time majors victor Woods said: "I'm very excited".

"Today was the first day in a while that I've really played well, hit every shot solid, and took the range form to the course", he said.

He bogeyed the second hole but rallied to birdie three of his next four holes. "I've done that very well on a number of occasions, been close to winning before and hopefully we got a great chance of winning it tomorrow".

McIlroy shot weekend rounds of 65 and 69 a year ago to finish in a tie for fourth, two behind victor Marc Leishman. I definitely don't feel like I've gone stale or in any way frustrated or feel like it's tedious playing all these weeks in a row.

Woods avoided falling behind early when he holed a 40-foot birdie putt on No. 3, hit a attractive bump into a slope below the green on the par-5 fourth hole to set up birdie and holed a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-5 sixth.
