Ambedkar was apostle of social equality: Ram Madhav

Jammu and Kashmir ministers, Chaudhary Lal Singh and Chandra Prakash Ganga, who had drawn criticism from all quarters over their participation in a rally in support of the accused in the Kathua rape and murder case, submitted their resignations to state BJP president on Friday (April 13).

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Ram Madhav on Saturday said there was no threat to the ruling PDP-BJP coalition in Jammu and Kashmir as both the parties were working in coordination. Lack of discretion does not amount to guilt.

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister had expressed her displeasure and asked BJP to remove ministers Chandra Prakash Ganga and Lal Singh from their positions.

Madhav said the two ministers stepped down because of the perception about them.

He said the two BJP leaders had visited the Hindu Ekta Manch rally to clam down the people and clear misgiving about the investigations.

After the meeting, Works Minister and senior PDP leader Naeem Ahkar, who is also the government spokesperson, "appreciated" the BJP support in the handling of the case which had caused fissures in the alliance.

The PDP and the BJP held separate meetings in Srinagar and Jammu and iterated their commitment to the alliance.

He said that the ministers' intention was not to hamper the investigation going on in the case. For what are we people's representatives? "This we have told the government already", Madhav told reporters here.

Claiming that it was because of the BJP that the chargesheet had been readied against the Kathua accused on time, Madhav said it showed that there had been no interference or attempt to create obstacles in the inquiry by anyone. Incidentally, BJP ministers had jointly called on Mufti to try to persuade her to hand over the case to the CBI. "Our party stood by the government on the issue of investigation", he said, adding, "Talks for fast-tracking the trial are also on and we believe stern punishment will be awarded to the guilty soon".

"The BJP wants justice for the victim and there are no two opinions on that".

"However, he said, since there was a public demand for a CBI probe, I said we will put forth the demand before the Chief Minister".

He denied that party leaders had played any role in the Hindu Ekta Manch agitation.

The state government has been told to withdraw the directive on forestland encroachments by nomads, PTI quoted Ram Madhav, the BJP's minder for the state, as saying in Jammu.
