Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger slams Premier League for VAR delay

Newcastle deservedly defeated Arsenal 2-1 at St James' Park on Sunday to all but secure their Premier League status for next season.

Shkodran Mustafi has been accused of failing to learn from his mistakes, with the Arsenal defender considered to be a liability by Martin Keown.

"Mustafi seems to still be making the same mistakes he made earlier this season", Keown said about the German, drawing the same conclusion as many others.

Asked by Spanish radio if he saw himself at Newcastle for many more seasons, Benitez said: 'Yes, in principal we are relaxed. "Still feel you're capable of finishing above Burnley", - Match of the Day host and former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker fired over a sarcastic tweet as his former rivals sit sixth in the table and just two points above the Clarets.

Meanwhile, Newcastle understood exactly what they had on their side and allowed this to happen, then struck quickly on the counter as Arsenal should have been doing the entire time.

It seems it has taken this disappointing run for the manager to recognise issues at Arsenal that have always been apparent to fans and pundits alike.

Arsene Wenger is known for not really hashing things out elaborately, and just letting his team do as they please.

"But I felt overall today the fact we played on Thursday night, in the second half we couldn't raise the tempo and keep it up in the first half".

Petr Cech has warned Arsenal they need to win all their remaining games if they are to climb into the Premier League's top five.

With Per Mertesacker retiring, Koscielny turning 33 in September and young duo Holding and Chambers still developing, it may be tempting for Arsenal to hold on to the only centre-back in the squad who is actually in his prime. While they managed to avoid a collapse in that match and battled back to a 2-2 draw, there was nothing surprising about their failure to see out a 1-0 lead over Newcastle, even if the Magpies had not beaten them on home soil in 13 years. Arsenal still need a solution to their defensive woes, and Mustafi is not it.
