Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny likely to miss rest of the season

The midfielder is expected to miss the remainder of Arsenal's season, but he will be fit to participate with Egypt at the World Cup in Russian Federation.

Arsenal are hopeful Mohamed Elneny will play again this season despite revealing that the midfielder suffered ankle ligament damage against West Ham.

'We hope that Mo shall be out there for Arsenal once more this season and we're preserving in common contact with the Egyptian Soccer Affiliation. "He will be available for Egypt but not anymore for Arsenal".

The injury also rules Elneny out of Arsenal's next Premier League clash against Manchester United on Sunday.

Elneny is a member of Egypt's 2018 World Cup team.

With Liverpool star Mohamed Salah in their ranks, Egypt have been tipped as potential dark horse to do well.

Elneny, a 25-year-old Egyptian global and key player in Wenger's game plan, was stretchered off in tears shortly before halftime, reports Efe. The midfielder will miss both of their semi-final ties with Atletico Madrid (the home one is Thursday), but he should be available if they were to make it to the final on May 16.

The former Basel midfielder has started 26 games this season, including the last four across all competitions, scoring his only goal of the campaign in a 6-0 Europa League group-stage win over BATE Borisov.
