Audi Canada recalls about 48000 vehicles over potential fires

A potential fire in a auto is never a good thing, which is why Audi is recalling 1.16 million vehicles worldwide for coolant pump issues.

The recalled vehicles include: certain 2013-2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet, A5 Sedan and Audi Q5 vehicles; 2012-2015 Audi A6 vehicles; 2013-2016 Audi A4 Sedan and A4 all-road vehicles.

All of the affected Audi vehicles are equipped with a 2-liter turbocharged engine.

Audi is recalling about 391,000 cars and SUVs in the United States and Canada alone.

Audi told the AP there have been reports of fires, but did not specify details of the incidents.

The company in 2016 rolled out a software update to switch off coolant pumps that have become blocked, theoretically preventing the pumps from becoming overheated and causing fires. Transport Canada's online Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database says the same.

Dealerships will replace the pumps at no cost to owners; however, the redesigned parts won't be ready until November.

Previously, last year Audi recalled several vehicles for some software update and dealers did the software update. Audi will officially send the letter to all the owners and the recall process will start in June this year.
