Bystanders hold suspect for police in Portage Ave stabbing

Two people were taken to hospital following separate stabbing incidents that occurred Friday night.

Police, including the tactical support team and the police helicopter, were called to the house in the first 100 block of Agnes Arnold Place at about 8:20 p.m. after a fight left the victim injured.

Police say Young pulled out a wood-handled pocket knife and stabbed the woman near her right temple through the auto window.

On Monday, authorities charged 38-year-old Jeremy Steinberg with second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the alleged stabbing death of 28-year-old Kristopher Spotts. He remains in custody.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to the police report she was holding a 1-year-old infant at the time of the incident, the child was unharmed.

The fire also burned a tent where homeless people had set up camp.

He tried to run but was caught, and stabbed twice in the upper body. The attacker was held for police by bystanders in the area. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
