CBI gets 7 day custody of Unnao MLA, victim undergoes tests

"We included the demand for CBI probe into the Kathua rape and murder at the request of civil society", Kour said and accused the state government of forcing them into agitation by "giving no response to our concerns despite repeated memorandums and statements".

"The MLA was given a similar set of questions after a gap of one hour by interrogating officers". He was also confronted with some facts by the agency. When she complained with CM Adityanath's office (CMO), they directed police to take action.

The girl's uncle told reporters on Sunday that supporters of the MLA are threatening his family and their sympathizers in the village.

The crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police filed a main charge sheet against the seven accused on Monday last and one separate charge sheet against another accused, who was earlier said to be a juvenile, at a court in Kathua district on Tuesday last. It came after the Allahabad High Court rapped the police for its inaction against the BJP lawmaker who was influencing the "law-and-order machinery".

The bench of Chief Justice D.B. Bhosale and Justice Suneet Kumar asked the agency to furnish on May 2 a report on the progress of its probe.

The other accused, Shashi, had allegedly taken the victim to Sengar on the day of crime, and stood guard outside the door as the heinous crime was allegedly committed inside by the MLA and others.

The father expressed satisfaction with the probe conducted so far by the state police, while vehemently opposing the plea of senior advocate Bhim Singh and Delhi-based lawyer Anuja Kapur that the investigation be transferred to the CBI. The victim's family had also alleged that the accused MLA's brother, Atul Singh Sengar, along with his companions, had also raped the girl and thrashed the victim's father on April 3 for refusing to withdraw the FIR over the same.
