Competitive Gamer Billy Mitchell Responds To His World Records Being Stripped Off

In addition, Steve Wiebe, who featured in King of Kong alongside Mitchell as the protagonist of the documentary (for lack of a better term), has also also spoken out in light of the controversy.

The official gatekeepers of Donkey Kong history, Twin Galaxies, last week disqualified Mitchell's high scores and banned him from future competition after finding evidence that he used emulating software, opening up the possibility of cheating in any number of ways, rather than an unmodified arcade game that is required for official high score record keeping. Mitchell goes on to claim that his investigation will uphold the integrity of his claims, proving that his scores were done professionally and legitimately.

As reported by Eurogamer, Mitchell released the following statement through Old School Gamer Magazine, a publication he is affiliated with. The Guinness World Records organization quickly followed suit, but Mitchell isn't stepping down quietly. So it seems likely that TG will appreciate and take into consideration any proof that Mitchell may have that shows its investigation was in error. King of Kong referenced that that he was a referee and on the board of directors.

"The fact of the matter is, now there's a true professional due diligence being done to investigate things that happened as far as 35 years ago", he said.

There's no denying that Mitchell is a ridiculously skilled video game player, his ideal Pac-Man score is a mind-boggling feat of memory, patience and pixel-perfect control, but, as this situation continues, the Floridian native risks this recent revelation becoming the defining mark for his entire gaming career. "I wish I had it in my hands right now". We've been at this since 1982, and it's not gonna stop now. For now, we'll have to wait and see what evidence and witnesses Mitchell can produce.
