Eric Kendricks: Minnesota Vikings re-sign linebacker

On the day they welcomed players back into their building for the start of offseason workouts, the Vikings ushered one of their linebackers into a new tax bracket.

Kendricks is scheduled to make a base salary of $1.138 million in 2018 in the final season of his four-year rookie contract.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings have signed linebacker Eric Kendricks to a multiyear contract extension.

Another piece of the Vikings' dominant defense is locked in for the long haul.

Kendricks, 26, had 136 total tackles, six passes defensed, a sack, an interception and a touchdown in 16 starts last season for the Vikings.

The next major move that should come for the Vikings is re-signing linebacker Anthony Barr to an extension as he is set to play out the fifth-year option of his rookie deal that is worth $12.3 million.

Kendricks has led the team in tackles in each of his three professional seasons since Minnesota used their second-round pick on the former UCLA Bruin in the 2015 NFL Draft. With Kendricks in place, it ensures that a major part o their defense is in place for the next several seasons. He had a team-high 113 tackles in 2017.
