Fatal Stabbing At Binghamton University

The incident happened at around 10:30 p.m.at Binghamton University in upstate NY. The university updated the alert at about 6:45 a.m.to report the victim had died from his injuries.

According to official entries on the Binghamton University Facebook page, a freshman is dead as a result of a stabbing at a dorm on campus April 15.

Engineering student Joao Souza was attacked at about 10.30pm on Sunday in a residence hall on the campus near the New York-Pennsylvania state line.

"If there is information that relates to the immediate welfare of students and the campus community, we will communicate it via our alert system", Binghamton University said in a news release.

Investigators from university and the state police interviewed people overnight. The suspect remains at large, according to a statement issued by the university.

Officials said "At this time, the police are confident this was not a random act".
