Firefighters battling brush fire in Carter County

Middlesex firefighters were called to a grass fire at 2 p.m. Saturday that caught the side of a garage on fire at 361 Browns Hill Road, according to 911 reports. Waverly Assistant Fire Chief Michael Tanner said in addition to the fire on Emerson Avenue, the department was also fighting a fire on Whippoorwill Road.

A "red flag warning" for critical fire weather conditions was in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for parts of southwest Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia and southeast Ohio. Crews are on scene, use caution in the area.

At last check Saturday evening, that fire was only reported to be under 5 acres.

Crews from the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department were called to a brush fire on Summit Road on Thursday.


The cause of the fire is unknown, but crews believe it to be accidental.

Kuniyoshi praised a quick response from multiple agencies for putting out the fire without any injuries or damage to nearby property.
