US PRESIDENTS past and present paid tribute to Barbara Bush, who has died aged 92.

McBride said while the Bush family may not have liked the rhetoric of the campaign, "they respect and stand up and salute the office of the president of the United States". He said the outpouring of support and friendship toward his wife following her death "is lifting us all up".

Trump ordered flags to fly at half-staff at all public buildings and military posts in Bush's honor.

They were moved to the front of the line when she saw the Bushes through the crowds.

Bush "was at her side when (she) left this good earth", said the ex-President's longtime chief of staff Jean Becker. He said he was at peace because his mother was at peace.

"She complimented me that even though I signed at 17 I got my undergraduate and law degrees in the offseason", La Russa recalled.

A tearful Laura Bush added that watching her mother-in-law taught her "how to be a first lady, and I'm so grateful for her example".

Less than a day after former First Lady Barbara Bush died, her son and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush kept his promise to Elmhurst College, speaking at a forum in west suburban Oak Park. Nancy Reagan only had to manage Ronald Reagan, who was a fundamentally solitary man. Barbara Bush had to manage George H.W. Bush, their six children, a couple of dozen in-laws and cousins and the thousands of others whom her gregarious, big-hearted husband invited into their lives. Mrs.

In Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram to the former president offering his condolences.

He and his wife also founded Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation, which the Bushes supported by posing with their dog for the foundation's first celebrity calendar.

Since news came of Barbara Bush's passing, the phones at the flower shop are ringing off the hook.

The strand, or multiple strands, of pearls often seen around Barbara Bush's neck is perhaps just as synonymous with the former first lady as her white hair. "She showed us what an honest, vibrant, full life looks like", the Clintons said in a written statement.

For those whose grasp of American television history does not reach further back than the 1990s, The Waltons was a long-running series about a family in rural Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II. The funeral service for Barbara Bush is by invitation only on Saturday, April 21, at St. Martin's.

A Friday wake at the same church is open to the public. "Heaven knows we're far from ideal and, if truth be known, maybe just a wee bit short of normal, but as Dr. Seuss says, a person is a person", Mrs Simpson had written to Mrs Bush.
