Gunman shoots at home of judge who barred Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif

The court directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, or Pemra, to take a call on the petitions filed against the Sharifs within 15 days.

As many as three corruption references had been filed against the Sharif family, on the directives of the top court which pertain to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and Avenfield properties of London.

The Avenfield properties reference is among three filed against Nawaz and his family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) past year on the Supreme Court's directives.

Imran Khan, the former cricketer and political foe of Mr Sharif, suggested... On Friday, Pakistan Supreme Court had barred Sharif from electoral politics for life declaring him dishonest and not righteous person. If convicted, he can be jailed.


About 27 miscellaneous contempt petitions were filed in the Lahore HC against Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, ousted PM Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and 14 other lawmakers since the disqualification of Sharif in the Panama Papers case verdict. "In case of a live transmission, no one can predict what a speaker is going to say".

"The judges acted as lawyers of Imran Khan and they were party against Nawaz Sharif".

Justice Naqvi observed that whereas Article 19-A of the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression and the right to "fair criticism" to every citizen, the right is conditional to law and regulation.

The petitioner said PEMRA did not block these hateful and ridiculing remarks passed against the judiciary.
