Inn-side Story #26: Content Plans for Summer 2018 & Beyond

Today, Rare shared more details about its content plans for the pirate adventure, and players who complained about the lack of things to do in the game should soon have a good reason to give it another shot.

Beyond the flashy content updates, Rare will also kick off its weekly events program in May, giving players a chance to collect unique rewards on a weekly basis.

Sea of Thieves Executive Producer Joe Neate and Design Director Mike Chapman have taken to the airwaves in the latest Inn-side Story. "As we look to add to the game, we will be very purposeful about the type of experience we want to create, and how we want this game to grow", he continued.

When it releases in early May, The Hungering Deep will feature a new enemy which crews will need to discover and defeat as part of a unique event.

Really, the only way to play Sea of Thieves is with a group of two or more of your friends. The content updates will introduce "major new features" as well as fresh items, mechanics, and goals. "Similarly to The Hungering Deep, both of these updates will also include new gameplay mechanics for players, new AI threats to challenge, and new unique rewards to claim". The initial launch will be a timed event, but once the new threat is added to the world it will be a permanent fixture. In addition, some new weekly events with new mechanics will be added. The other two content updates will be Cursed Sails, which will include a new ship type for our very own TL;DR Coxswain to sail, and Forsaken Shores.

Rare says that the first content update for Sea of Thieves will be called The Hungering Deep, bringing a unsafe new AI threat to the seas that will force crews to work together.

In order to work on these content updates, Rare has changed the priority of the pets and ship captaincy updates after receiving player feedback, so don't hold your breath for those as they've been placed on the back burner for the time being. "Expect our plans to continue to be fluid", Rare said.
