Kompany celebrates City title with emotional speech

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was confident of landing the Premier League title when the Citizens beat reigning champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in September.

Guardiola also praised his young players - with Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus scoring crucial goals - and he believes they will learn from their Champions League disappointment.

Many saw United's 2-1 defeat at home to their neighbours, which gave them an 11 point lead at the top, as the moment it was sealed. But Mourinho's team produced a stunning comeback to win the game 3-2 and put their rival's celebrations on hold.

After their limp Champions League exit against Liverpool, a City collapse against Tottenham would have had the critics carping that Guardiola has no Plan B when things go wrong.

Thierry Henry, for Arsenal in 2002-03, is the only player to reach 20 assists in a Premier League season.

"When Pep Guardiola took over two seasons ago, people said that while he's won La Liga and the Bundesliga, he would find it a lot harder to win the Premier League".

A serial victor as a manager with Barcelona and Bayern, Guardiola ended his first year in England at City without silverware - his only failure to win a trophy since his managerial career started back in 2007.

Guardiola, who becomes the first Spanish manager to win the Premier League, has now won a remarkable 24 trophies in his nine-year management career. What a great feeling! Before you know it, it's gone.

Etisalat - the UAE's leading telecommunications operator - posted an official title winning video shortly after United's loss. The Premier League title was confirmed.

Meanwhile Mourinho was left counting the cost of an insipid display by his team.

Mourinho is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: "We are not going to spend more than we can". There was no fluidity.

Yet, knowing the job was nearly done, he gave his players a ringing endorsement after they returned to their best with a superb 3-1 win over Spurs at Wembley on Saturday.

Romping home to the title, Mourinho's Chelsea side of 2004-05 were lethal on their travels and accrued an impressive tally of 48 points on the road. I have no reason not to trust.

City have already equalled the record for winning the Premier League, with five games remaining. I've been lucky to win three but so many I've missed as well. I believe in myself. You win titles with, of course, quality.

It had been inevitable for most of the season, but it's finally official. Not just the performance level, but also the mental level, the day-by-day, everything must be consistent since day one until the last day.
