Konami announce new Castlevania game but… it's a mobile app

We're sure that gamers would have much preferred seeing a brand new, full-blown Castlevania title launch on consoles, but in the meantime we suppose this will have to do. But before you get excited for something along the lines of Symphony of the Night, keep in mind that's not what the publisher is shooting for.

Konami revealed on Tuesday that it is developing a new smartphone game in the Castlevania series titled Akumajō Dracula Grimoire of Souls (Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls).

Overall, the game appears highly reminiscent of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. Emphasis is being placed on pairs, so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. That hasn't been fully confirmed as of yet.

Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls can be played in both Single Player and multiplayer, where up to four players can fight the undead together.

In a future where Count Dracula has been completely vanquished, people thought they had finally achieved eternal peace.

Although the general gameplay seems to be similar to the existing 2D entries it features real-time co-op with other players from "around the world" - which hopefully implies a Western release.

However, a letter sent to Genya Arikado spelt the end of that peaceful age. Protagonist Genya Arikado soon receives a letter that declares "The Grimoire has run wild and Count Dracula will be resurrected", so he sets off straight for the sender.

An exhilarating battle where you can enjoy combat with up to 4 people! Strengthen your favorite character and take on the powerful enemies that block your path forward!

The site also introduces some characters new to the franchise, including Aruma Genta, who stands as "the main character of this work", along with his support Lucy. You can sign up for the beta on the game's website.
