Manchester City clinches Premier League title after West Brom stuns United

The Blues could have made history though and taken the title sooner if they hadn't lost 3-2 against Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

But City needed to win Tottenham on Saturday and hope United lose against West Brom today to be declared winners - and it was so!

Champions Manchester City have set their sights on rewriting the record books after clinching the Premier League title.

City now sit 16 points clear in top spot with five games to play and could yet to break various Premier League records by the end of the season, with the 100-point mark within their sights.

The answer was emphatic as City dominated at the home of the Premier League champions, controlling the game from the first minute and not offering Chelsea a sight of goal until a late chance in the dying minutes.

'If so, Antonio Conte might as well give Mourinho the contact details of the company which engraves the Premier League trophy while he's at it'.

"We were masters in complication, everything was complicated", said Mourinho.

The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the 74th minute through Jay Rodriguez and stood tall.

Guardiola said he is proud to Manchester City manager and believes his players have been "awesome" this season en route to winning the title with five games to spare.

However, on Sunday, United looked lazy and uninspired and one mistake during the match cost them a humiliating defeat against the bottom-placed West Brom.

This was one of the worst displays of Jose Mourinho's reign, with the Red Devils putting in a shocking performance devoid of intensity or attacking invention.

Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions on Sunday as Manchester United crashed to a shock 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion. Probably because I won eight championships, I was not in the moon with the victory against them. "In my opinion it affected for sure some of the people that were too happy just with that", he said. "But you also win titles with consistency".

In his second season in charge, Guardiola, aided by the vast financial backing of City's Abu Dhabi-based owners, has created a sublime team that helped him become the first Spanish coach to win the English top-flight title.

"I'm not trying to explain anything here, or to make an excuse, I just want to keep this weekly meeting with you, although in days like this one it's complicated".
