Messi hurting after Champions League exit, says Valverde

Valverde said: 'It's not the week to talk about records but we should be positive. He spoke out in the wake of this week round of Champions League fixtures.

"For me, Messi as a player is more talented".

They let slip a 1-4 first leg deficit to allow Roma to score three in the second and go through to the semis instead.

Even that would feel like a slight let down after European elimination, but this has been a successful year with the prospect now, with six league games to go of the campaign, of a first ever unbeaten season.

"We issued a plea for information to those fans who may have been involved in these incidents", read a club statement on their official website. "This is the toughest loss since I've been with Barcelona, because of the way it happened".

The Spanish newspaper "Sport.es" argues that third consecutive the departure of "Barcelona" in the quarterfinals of the Champions League can seriously impact on the future prospects of the club, Ernesto Valverde. In 2016, Barcelona fell to Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid 3-1 on aggregate, winning 2-1 at home and losing 2-0 in Madrid.

The win against Valencia means a seventh league title in 10 years now looks like a formality for Barca, but they still have some work to do if they want to end the season unbeaten.

"We've tried to confirm the great league season we're having after the blow of the other day".

"The sensation is that we have failed, that we have disappointed the supporters, but we have to look forward and not lose sight of what we can still achieve this season". Their bold approach was paying off, causing the Catalan club a lot of problems, but this time it was a Barcelona player who would create a clear cut chance for them.

Barcelona have an 11-point lead over Atletico Madrid with seven matches left, and they will face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final on April 21 trying to win their fourth straight Copa title.
