Pacquiao on firing Freddie Roach: I have not made a final decision

The 39-year-old Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) is in the twilight of his career, with four losses in his last nine bouts and a noticeable decrease in the hand speed that made him an incredible fighter.

MANNY Pacquiao remains quick on the offensive, emphasizing he hasn't made a decision yet whether or not the legendary Freddie Roach will still be on his corner for his world welterweight title fight against Lucas Matthyse.

Pacquiao takes on WBA welterweight champion Matthysse at Kuala Lumpur's Axiata Arena on July 14, with another three title fights on the undercard.

"I would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't hurt that he didn't contact me personally about his decision", said Roach in an official statement released to various media outfits.

"Contrary to statements which I personally did not make that are circulating in the media", Pacquiao claimed Sunday, "I have not made my final decision who will be my head trainer for my July 14th fight with Matthysse". "If Buboy can get a stable of boxers out of this no hard feelings to Freddie, but Manny has not made a final decision".

Pacquiao said that Koncz is now in contact with Roach's camp.

"I think it is too late now for Manny and Roach to split because they have been together for a long time", he said.

"Hopefully I can retire Manny Pacquiao, we are prepared for that, prepared to win", said Matthysse, whose World Boxing Association 147-lb crown will be on the line for the first time since winning it last January in Los Angeles.

Boxing often resembles a fairground carousel, with its many participants getting on and off with dizzying frequency. I wouldn't trade any of it.

"This is the fight I have always wanted".

The Friday news release served an update on the fight promotion and included information about an upcoming two-city media tour to Manila and Kuala Lumpur as well as comments from Matthysse about the fight.

Since coming to the United States for his first pro fight back in 2001 in Las Vegas, Pacquiao and Roach have been side by side in a remarkable rise for both men as fighter and trainer. "I don't know if he was upset with me or what".
