The prime minister also said that inaugurating the memorial was an emotional moment for him and said this will help people know more about Ambedkar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Union Home minister Rajnath Singh, Parliament Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani and other BJP leaders paid tributes to BR Ambedkar at the Parliament building complex in Delhi. The Prime Minister boarded a metro train from the Lok Kalyan Marg metro station of the Yellow Line (HUDA City Centre-Samaypur Badli) in the evening and travelled to Vidhan Sabha station - a journey traversing 11 stations - that took about 20 minutes.

The memorial also has an exact replica of the room of Dr Ambedkar as it was in real life with furniture and assorted things being kept in the same way. The prime minister had been criticised for his silence about the rapes of two minors in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh. He said that now onwards 26, Alipur Road, Delhi has become a landmark not only in Delhi but also in our country.

Prime Minister Modi had laid the foundation stone of the memorial on March 21, 2016.

"This is the place where Dr. Ambedkar attained Mahaparinirvana on 6th December 1956", the PMO tweeted. Since this building was to be constructed as a Memorial of Baba Saheb, who was the brain behind the Constitution of India, hence, the building has been given the shape of a book.

"Ambedkar National Memorial (DANM)" at 26, Alipore Road, Delhi at the place of Mahaparinirvana of Dr. Ambedkar here today. Toran Dwars, a Bodhi Tree, a musical fountain, and facade lighting are other important elements of the memorial, a statement said. Most passengers couldn't believe that Modi was travelling with them.
