Kuldeep Singh Sengar, 50, from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is accused of raping a 16-year-old girl last year - an allegation he denies.

He has been taken to the Lucknow office of the premier probe agency and will be formally arrested now.

The incident has triggered a political storm and public outrage.

The girl had registered a complaint claiming that Sengar had raped her in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district a year ago.

Earlier on Thursday, the Allahabad High Court questioned the Uttar Pradesh government over the delay in Sengar's arrest. "Police is not ready to register FIR of a minor rape victim".

"Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against three doctors namely Manoj Kumar (orthosurgeon), G P Sachan (surgeon) and Gaurav Agrawal (EMO) for laxity in giving proper medical care to the victim's father, both prior to judicial custody and on referral from jail to the district hospital while in judicial custody", said the statement.

Even though a police officer, representing the Special Investigation Team (SIT), assured the court to arrest the accused MLA but the Chief Justice appeared not convinced with the reply and the bench has reserved the order in the case for Friday.

Yesterday, Sangeeta Sengar, wife of Kuldeep Sengar, met Uttar Pradesh's Director General of Police OP Singh in Lucknow and handed over a letter to him demanding a Narco test for her husband and the Unnao rape victim. "The reference to CBI will be sent today", Singh said.

Singh also claimed that while the victm's statement was recorded before a magistrate court under Section 164 Cr PC, the victim did not take the name of the MLA or his brother. Meanwhile, the Centre issued a notification approving the CBI probe into the case, officials said later in the evening in New Delhi.
