Red Sox off to Best Start in Franchise History

Red Sox off to Best Start in Franchise History

And it still might be a fair question, as Judge and Stanton really are a once-in-a-lifetime pairing.

- Alex Cobb knew the Boston Red Sox would present a hard challenge in his season debut Saturday, but the Orioles right-hander was confident he had done everything he could over the season's first few weeks to be ready for the American League's most risky lineup.

BOSTON - Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 10-3 on Saturday to get to 12-2 - the best start in their 118-year history.

A J.D. Martinez solo home run into the right field-bullpen in the third inning put the Red Sox up 4-0.

The 25-year-old two-time All-Star has remained mostly durable since becoming a full-time member of the Red Sox in 2015.

Martinez's recent surge - eight hits (including two homers) and 10 RBIs over his last five games - has raised his season batting average to.283 to go along with three home runs and 13 RBIs.

Ramirez and Benintendi tied for the team lead with three RBIs each on the day. Furthermore, Ramirez and Martinez rank first and second, respectively, among American League hitters in RBIs. We got a lot of sluggers in our lineup. When he's locked in and healthy, he's very unsafe.

Betts came around to score on Andrew Benintendi's first-inning double off the Green Monster, sliding hard into the plate and banging left legs with Sisco's shin guard as he reached across the plate to grab a relay throw. Sometimes we get caught up in the protection part of it, but obviously, when J.D.is swinging the bat, (the three spot) is a good spot.

Mookie Betts got the Boston Red Sox off to a good start by drawing a lead-off walk.

"After the surgery I felt like a release - my shoulder was free and I knew right away I was going to be able to do whatever I want", Ramirez said.

"I think you can always play better, you can find those little things you need to work on, but yeah we're hot right now", Benintendi said. It seems like early in the season we were playing clean and pitching, and not so fast around the bases. A good hitter is driving the ball all over the place, right-center, left-center, doesn't matter. "We're proud of what they're doing".

0-4 in their last 4 games against the Red Sox.

"He's OK", Cora said. X-rays were negative and he's day to day.

If the latest ailment forces him back out of the lineup, Blake Swihart figures to receive any extra starts that come from Betts' absence. The over has hit in two of those games, compared to seven that've gone under in such games. Playing time has been hard to come by for Swihart, but Cora was happy to get him into the game.
