Rob Gronkowski will not attend start of offseason program, per report

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, tight end Rob Gronkowski doesn't now plan to participate in the team's voluntary offseason conditioning program set to begin Monday. The development follows months of speculation regarding Gronkowski's desire to continue his career.

If Gronk does decide to step away from football, Dwayne Allen is now in line to be quarterback Tom Brady's No. 1 option at tight end.

Schefter adds that Gronkowski and the Patriots have had "good communication" throughout the offseason. Some of the discussions have been focused on Gronk's contract. There yet to be any clear indication of whether Gronkowski will return to action for the 2018 campaign. The final two years, however, weren't touched.

But they'll reportedly do so without their superstar tight end.

Gronkowski won't be attending the first day of the voluntary workout sessions, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Gronkowski joins teammate Tom Brady, who will also sit out the beginning of the offseason due to a business trip overseas. "It will be heavily attended, but I know there are a couple players that I've talked to that have other commitments, but that's the way it always is, too".
