Salah reaches 40 goals as Liverpool breeze past Bournemouth

After their thrilling win over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League, the Reds will be high on confidence as they welcome a Cherries side that have little to play for.

Salah eclipsed Didier Drogba's record of 29 goals which was scored in the 2009-10 Premier League season.

Liverpool will look to put their Champions League exploits to one side when they take on Bournemouth at Anfield this evening.

According to Opta, Salah is the third Liverpool player to score 40-plus goals in all competitions in a single season after Roger Hunt (1961-62) and Ian Rush (1983-84 and 1986-87).

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who was suspended for the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, was the only change as he returned in place of James Milner and his sharpness and desire was a telling factor in securing Saturday's victory.

Salah has found the net this season with almost metronomic regularity for Liverpool

Henderson curled a teasing cross into the penalty area and Mane found a pocket of space inside the Bournemouth area to glance a header at goal which goalkeeper Asmir Begovic parried.

Bournemouth stayed in the game despite Liverpool's dominance but Salah made the points safe in the 69th minute when, with his back to goal, he glanced in Trent Alexander-Arnold's long pass with an astute header.

And welcome to our liveblog for the game between Liverpool and Bournemouth.

And there was still time for Roberto Firmino to add another late on with a lovely finish.
