Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid leaves for Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia

Flags of the Arab League, Saudi Arabia and other participating countries have been placed along several routes in Dammam and Al-Khobar.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, on Sunday slammed Iran's "blatant interference" in regional affairs as Arab leaders met in the kingdom for an annual gathering.

The Saudi decisions reflect the Kingdom's strong support to the Palestinian cause and hopefully would lead to the realization of the dream for an independent Palestine state within the 1967 borders and Eastern Jerusalem as the capital for the future country, said OIC chief.

Opening the 29th Arab League summit, the Saudi King also criticised the United States decision to transfer its embassy in Israel to Occupied Jerusalem and described "terrorism" as the biggest challenge facing Arab leaders.

Missiles targeted a research centre, two chemical weapons facilities and an Assad regime command centre.

Al-Jubeir had lambasted USA decision to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem town saying the move will hamper the global efforts to end Arab-Israel conflict in Middle East.

"We've never seen the Arab world in such bad shape with leadership not able to cope with the challenges facing the Arab world, so much so that most of the points of contention that the Arab leaders don't agree to were not put on the agenda and the ones that they agreed to were put on the agenda", said Al Jazeera's Bishara.

Military help over the past three years from Russian Federation and Iran, which also backs Lebanon's Hezbollah and Shi'ite Muslim militias in Iraq, has allowed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to crush the rebel threat to topple him.

The heads of Arab states will renew their rejection of US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, slated for May.

The four countries severed diplomatic and transport ties with Qatar last June, accusing it of supporting terrorism. Doha denies the charges and says the boycott is an attempt to impinge on its sovereignty. Tunisia is to held the 30th AL Summit. Trump publicly sided with the Saudis and Emiratis early in the crisis but is now pushing for a resolution to restore Gulf Arab unity and maintain a united front against Iran.

The Omani delegation comprised Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Dr Adbullah bin Mohammed bin Said al Sa'eedi, Minister of Legal Affairs and Sheikh Mohammed bin Said bin Saif al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development and government officials.

There are 22 members of the Arab League but Syria's membership has been suspended since 2011 because of the civil war.
