Suspect Arrested In Decades-Old East Area Rapist Case, Reports Say

Sacramento authorities have arrested a local man in the case.

Between 1976 and 1986, the Golden State Killer (aka the East Area Rapist) is believed to have committed a dozen murders, 45 rapes, and upward of 120 home burglaries from Sacramento to the Bay Area to Southern California.

According to reports, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office is expected to make the announcement Wednesday at noon. In Australia, there is another unsolved series of attacks by a suspect called "Mr".

Sources confirm that the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is working a significant break in the search for the East Area Rapist.

In January, the comedian Patton Oswalt, who was married to McNamara, announced the release of the book, telling his Facebook followers he hoped it would help crack the case.

For years, McNamara immersed herself in the mystery of the Golden State Killer.

"Burglaries and rapes began occurring in the Sacramento area during the summer of 1976", according to an Federal Bureau of Investigation press release.

News of the arrest first broke Wednesday after suspected victim Jane Carson-Handler was contacted by detectives regarding his arrest. "On February 2, 1978, Rancho Cordova couple Sergeant Brian Maggiore and his wife, Katie, were on an evening walk with their dog and were chased by the subject who overcame the couple and shot at close range".

After July of 1981 no additional incidents were related to the East Bay Rapist - Golden State Killer until May of 1986 when an 18-year-old college student was raped and murdered in Irvine.

The so-called Golden State Killer stoked fears throughout the 1970s and '80s.
