Directed by Academy Award victor Kevin Macdonald, who also directed the Bob Marley documentary Marley (2012).

The documentary will contain new information about the singer's past, her career, her issues with substance abuse, and will also feature new track and video footage never before seen by fans and audiences.

The trailer also highlights the vast pressure that Houston faced in her career and the drug addiction that led to her tragic 2012 death.

"All the things coming at her, she just wanted to escape the pressure", a family member shares in voiceover. In addition, there are interviews with Whitney's mother Cissy Houston, music mogul Clive Davis, Whitney's ex-husband Bobby Brown and many others. Upon arriving at the scene, police found multiple bottles of prescription medication and loose pills around the room.


The emotional trailer begins with Houston's 1992 hit "I Have Nothing" from the Grammy-winning soundtrack The Bodyguard, as a voiceover says that Whitney "had so much so soul, so much spirit".

Whitney is set to be released on July 6 and according to JustJared.com, it will probe beyond familiar tabloid headlines and sheds new light on the spellbinding trajectory of her life.

Her death was later ruled an accidental drowning, with heart disease and cocaine use also cited as partial causes.
