TN professor suspended, 'lured' girls to do 'certain' things for senior officials

The Assistant Professor Nirmala Devi has been taken into custody by the police.

The assistant professor of the autonomous college was finally arrested from her house after she locked herself when the police reached there.

Responding to the audio clip of Maths Professor Nirmala Devi's conversation with the students going viral in the social media, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar told reporters here that her acts were condemanble. "It is important to inquire into such matters immediately and without prejudice so that the guilty do not escape without punishment". Madurai Kamraj University Vice Chancellor, Selladurai met with Governor to apprise him of the situation.

The students, at first, however, only spoke about asking someone out but did not go through with it. Kerry added a twist by giving them a deadline of two weeks to get it done. In the 20 minutes, audio clip the professor is heard allegedly trying to convince the young girls to do a sexual favour for financial and academic rewards. "I am hearing about such an incident only now from you".

Whether they're studying biology, art, linguistics, or history, college students get a lot of information in a short amount of time. "She is heard telling the student that they may decide on informing their parents about the plan". When the girls tell her not to talk about this again, Ms. Nirmala Devi seeks an assurance from them that they will not reveal about the conversation to anyone. But the lecturer, who has been suspended by the college after a preliminary inquiry, denied any sexual connotation and said she had given the advice "in the right spirit". "So we cannot offer any favour for the students as claimed in the audio", he said, alleging that there could have been a conspiracy over the circulation of the audio clip. The statement also further suspects that there is a criminal nexus between the governor, governor's office and officials belonging to the higher education department.

The DMK working president MK Stalin demanded a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under the supervision of the Madras High Court to expose the network involved in the scandal.
