Tough draw for Arsenal tempered by Diego Costa blow for Atletico Madrid

Well, as luck would have it, the Gunners were pitted up against Atletico Madrid in the semi-final draw which was held on Friday afternoon.

The first legs will be played on April 26, with the second legs on May 3.

Simeone has won the Europa League title with Atletico before losing two Champions League finals to Real Madrid in 2013 and 2015.

Arsene Wenger's men avoided an upset in the quarter-final after beating CSKA Moscow 6-3 on aggregate.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has insisted that winning the Europa League "would be the icing on the cake" for departing striker Fernando Torres.

Diego Simeone's side are now second in LaLiga behind runaway leaders Barcelona.

However, they were knocked out of the respected group in the Champions League and have taken the competition by storm.

Marco Rose's side produced a stunning fightback to win the second leg 4-1 on Thursday, having slipped 5-2 behind on aggregate in the 55th minute.

Marseille, for whom captain Dimitri Payet was inspirational in their comeback 5-3 aggregate win against RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals, are now fourth in Ligue 1.

Marseille will host underdog Salzburg in the first leg of the other semifinal.

The final in Lyon will provide extra incentive for Marseille as they will look to lift the European trophy on Ligue 1 side Lyon's home soil.
