Two dogs rescued in house fire Sunday afternoon

The fire occurred just after 11 a.m.in the 80 block of Bleeker Street, SW.

One man is dead after a late Sunday morning house fire in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

Authorities said the fire started in the front left bedroom.

At noon, French Village and Fairview Heights fire crews were still working at the scene, making sure no hot spots remained in the house. "Firefighters quickly deployed fire attack hose lines and immediately entered the home to conduct a primary search and battle the blaze".

The man's wife was unaccounted for, but was eventually found safe, according to a spokesperson with the Gwinnett County Fire Department, who added that the woman was away visiting her daughter. Two dogs were rescued. No injuries have been reported.

Officials said the victim was a smoker, but would not confirm that as the cause of the fire.

According to officials, crews were hampered by materials inside the home.
