U.S. says it has proof Syria government was behind gas attack

According to pro-opposition rescue group the White Helmets the attack killed dozens, with the World Health Organization saying that 500 people went to Syrian health facilities with "signs and symptoms consistent with exposure to toxic chemicals". But a wider attack will face multiple immediate and longer-term risks, including the possibility of a unsafe escalation with Russia, Assad's main military backer, in a country that Moscow has used as a testing ground for some of its most sophisticated weaponry.
