Utd won't spend insane to catch City - Mou

It was a gut punch for Jose Mourinho's men, leaving them needing to strengthen their hold over second spot at Bournemouth tomorrow before Saturday's Wembley date against Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-finals.

"Hopefully we can celebrate with our fans against Swansea (next weekend) and be champions because they deserve it". Everything was complicated. We couldn't think fast, we couldn't play fast.

The Red Devils were knocked out of the Champions League by a fearless and masterful Sevilla performance at Old Trafford and despite producing an incredible comeback against Manchester City to deny them the title at the Eithad Stadium last week, a defeat to West Brom for the Red Devils was all Pep Guardiola's men needed.

United came from behind to beat City 3-2 in the derby at the Etihad.

Mourinho is going to punish some of the first teamers who didn't perform versus the Baggies by dropping them at the Vitality Stadium in mid week.

But Jay Rodriguez's 73rd-minute header gave West Brom a stunning victory after they arrived at Old Trafford having lost nine of their previous 10 games.

His reaction to the West Brom defeat, a loss that became a humiliating one given that it confirmed Manchester City as Premier League champions, could not be dismissed as an isolated release of frustration. I don't want to see him going towards the ball because I think his influence going forward is absolutely brilliant and we saw that against City with both the goals he scored.

Mourinho would be willing to consider the sale of pretty much any players except David De Gea, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young and Juan Mata.

"So one of the things we have to improve is consistency".

Manchester United will sign three or four players this summer as Jose Mourinho revamps his Old Trafford squad, Gary Neville says.

The limp performance gift-wrapped the Premier League title for arch rivals Manchester City and left United boss Mourinho seething.

Mourinho made his remarks after yet another hard afternoon for Paul Pogba, United's record signing.

"I know that you don't want to read anything after a defeat like this one, that any comments made after the game sound like hollow words", he wrote on his blog.
